Randy Moss: ‘I Have No Intention of Retiring Soon’

Randy Moss mayRandy Moss not be a Patriot after the 2010 season ends, but Moss does intend to play somewhere. Moss, who fired his agent last week, told the Boston Herald that he has "no intention of retiring soon."

"The way it was brought to my attention was that it seemed like I'm retiring soon," Moss said, addressing speculation that he had decided to axe his agent because he'll hang up the cleats after this season. "I have no intention of retiring soon. What I did with firing an agent was, I thought time had run out. There were some things that couldn't be done that needed to be done."

Moss added: "I am a free man! I'm looking for a new agent."

He'll need that new agent, not only because he is "still marketable," as he told the Herald, but because he'll hit the free-agent market prior to the 2011 season -- assuming there is a 2011 season amid lingering collective bargaining issues.

Coach Mike Smith Speaks About Falcons’ Offseason Goals

Posted by Knox Bardeen | NFL News & Updates | Sunday 30 May 2010 12:45 pm

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Head Coach Mike Smith says that the Atlanta Falcons are going to stress consistency this offseason -- not just on the field, but in the classroom.

It'll be of great help that just about every player on the roster is in camp for OTA's. Only John Abraham -- coach Smith alluded to having open talks with the defensive end and knowing where he is -- and Dominique Franks are missing.

In the video below, Smith said that the surgical players are going to keep rehabbing, but Jonathan Babineaux, Kerry Meier and Chauncey Davis will be back, "sooner [rather] than later," and gave a time period for their return of seven to 10 days from Wednesday.

When asked if free agent addition Dunta Robinson and Brian Williams are considered the starting cornerbacks, Smith said that the secondary was in a state of flux. Nothing was set in stone.

"The defensive backfield group is going to be the most watched [position battle] this offseason and be very, very competitive."

Goodell: More Cold-Weather Super Bowls Possible, if 2014 a Success

Posted by FanHouse Newswire | NFL News & Updates | Saturday 29 May 2010 2:00 pm
LOWELL, Mass. (AP) -- Roger Goodell sent 40 letters to the NFL office in New York City looking for a job in 1981. Forty rejections came back.

But more letters to NFL headquarters followed, until one day a weary league executive invited him to "stop by when you're in the neighborhood."

"I told him I was in the neighborhood," recalled Goodell, who then drove all night from Pittsburgh to New York City to apply for what was supposed to be a three-month internship.

Twenty-five years later, Goodell was appointed to his dream job: commissioner of the National Football League.

Goodell used his story to inspire the 2,390 graduates of the University of Massachusetts Lowell on Saturday. Besides being commencement speaker, he and brothers Bill, Tim and Jeffrey accepted an honorary doctorate in the name of their late father, former U.S. Sen. Charles E. Goodell of New York.

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft introduced Goodell, saying, "He's a poster child for the saying, 'Be nice to your interns -- you may end up working for them."'

Michael Turner Is Healthy, Trim and Ready for 2010

Michael TurnerFLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- For Michael Turner, OTA's are mainly for timing and re-familiarizing himself with the playbook -- which he admits has a few new wrinkles included.

While Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez are setting lofty personal and team goals, Turner says all he cares about is longevity in 2010.

"I just want to be here for all 16 games," said the running back who was hampered with a high ankle sprain and missed five games last year.

During the offseason, Turner stayed at Falcons headquarters in Flowery Branch to work out, doing mostly cardiovascular workouts. He's a much more trim 244 pounds. A fact that he hopes will help him stay in games all season long.

To see what else Turner had to say after Atlanta's OTA, check out the video below:

Dolphins being cautious with Pennington (AP)

Posted by NFL News Blog | NFL News & Updates | Saturday 29 May 2010 10:57 am

These days, the Miami Dolphins are holding back Chad Pennington. With good reason. Dolphins coach Tony Sparano already knows Pennington’s strengths and doesn’t want to tax his throwing shoulder, which was operated on for the third time last season. With starter Chad Henne, plus young quarterbacks Pat White and Tyler Thigpen also on the Miami roster, Pennington is often a spectator in…

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says the success of the 2014 Super Bowl slated for Meadowlands Stadium will determine whether more championships are played at undomed cold-weather sites. Posted by NFL News Blog | NFL News & Updates | Friday 28 May 2010 3:21 pm

The San Diego Chargers have completed a three-day minicamp, with a thumbs-up from coach Norv Turner. Turner says the Chargers got a lot accomplished. An Arresting Day at Dolphins’ Minicamp

Posted by Chris Harry | NFL News & Updates | Friday 28 May 2010 2:39 pm

Tony Sparano
As much as Tony Sparano would have liked to have limited his comments on the first day of mandatory minicamp to football, the Miami Dolphins coach had a problem doing that.

That's cause he had to talk about other problems.

Namely, his players being involved in an NFL-leading four arrests this offseason, including Wednesday's bust of third-year defensive end Phillip Merling on charges that he battered his pregnant girlfriend.

"This morning, I talked to the team about practice schedules. I talked to the team about all the things that we needed to do out here," Sparano said following's Friday opening practice. "We discussed distractions."

The Dolphins certainly have had their share.
