Bruce AriansThere are a lot of legitimate criticisms that can be thrown at Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians this season (starting with the toss sweep to Mewelde Moore on third-and-2 against the Chiefs). But Steelers fans who are criticizing his play-calling against the Ravens seem to be asking too much of the man.

If the Steelers had known on Wednesday that Dennis Dixon would be starting, Arians could have crafted a gameplan to take advantage of Dixon's mobility. Jon BeasonJon Beason was arrested Monday on an aggravated assault charge stemming from a Nov. 15 incident, according to WCNC in Charlotte. The Panthers' star linebacker was later released without bond on a "written promise to appear" in court later.

Beason was allegedly involved in an altercation with a man named Gregory C. Frye at Uptown Cabaret, an, ahem, gentleman's club in Charlotte, following the Panthers' Week 10 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Are You Ready for Some Offense?

Drew BreesDavid Stern is the master of professional sports scheduling, but even he couldn't have lined up the stars for Monday night's New Orleans-New England matchup on the Bayou, which features two teams with a touch of offensive acumen.

Drew Brees has the undefeated Saints topping the league in passing yards per, with 420.5, and is probably wondering how in Hades he's not the front-runner in the MVP debate. Meanwhile, Tom Brady has the Pats' passing offense *only* averaging 416.1 yards per game as he looks to tie the NFL record for consecutive 300-yard passing games at six.

So, um, yeah, there's a decent chance you might get to see some points scored during ESPN's primetime broadcast tonight.

Eli Manning Insists His Foot Is Fine

Eli ManningAdam Schefter had Giants fans reaching for their panic buttons Sunday when he reported that quarterback Eli Manning was dealing with a "stress reaction" in his right foot that could lead to a stress fracture, an injury that would sideline Manning for the rest of 2009.

But Manning attempted to ease any concerns about his health Monday.

"It has been the same probably for the last three or four weeks," Manning said, a statement that confirmed a Sunday afternoon report from The Star-Ledger's Mike Garafolo. "Nothing new, I feel like I can go out there in practice and do everything I need to do."

Ravens’ Ray Rice an Unexpected Star

Ray RiceBALTIMORE -- Ray Rice showed during his collegiate days at Rutgers that he was a dominant running back as he fueled the Scarlet Knights' offense. Rice showed in his combine workouts last year that he could be a complementary NFL back -- maybe a third-down wonder. Certainly, most scouts concluded, he was not big enough or fast enough to fuel an NFL offense.

So, Rice went to work as a rookie last year with 107 carries and 33 receptions in primarily a reserve role and helped lead the Ravens to the AFC championship game.

This season, he is more than a complement.
